Vallarta is a wonderful vacation spot and an excellent value; the town is quite walkable with the lovely old town feel with the cobblestone streets and yet it has all the modern facilities with many fine hotels and restaurants. There are many activities which could include cruises on the bay day and evening, snorkeling and scuba diving, horseback riding, trips into the mountain villages or along the many miles of lovely coastline. It's an ideal resort for singles with a great nightlife, families and for gays as it is quite a gay friendly area.

Spare us the hype on apartments. Most are tiny and are targetted at the "new kiwi" market. The real money for investors is in buying older houses on their own parcel of land - you'd call that detached, we call it normal. Then you add value, rent it out, hold for the long term and you're sorted. No stamp duty, no capital gains, no death duty. It's all good. If you want to talk to real kiwi investors who aren't actually trying to sell you anything then the forum at www.propertytalk.com would be a good place to start. They even have a wiki with local info. Then, if you still want an apartment, I guess these guys might be good.

No way! Berlin has enough places for almost unlimited time. I've been to Berlin for a total of 3 weeks, in two trips. Feels like I've only seen a very small pert of it.

Xian is always in my wish list. I really want to see this Terracotta museum, something that we will never find in any other place. Perhaps the only drawback of Xian is its location, which is quite far from Beijing for example. We will need longer holiday to visit both of the cities.

They say Amsterdam is the Sodom and Gomora of Europe. It is interesting that there is a famous church (Oudekerk ?) just in the middle of this red light district. I wonder how the history of this church and its interesting neighbourhood is ;)
